چکیده

A new method for adaptive tessellation of threedimensional (3-D) grids is presented. A mixed-element decomposition method is introduced for local refinement of fully unstructured grids, consisting of tetrahedra and octahedra. The method preserves the shape of the elements of the initial grid and therefore the element quality. Furthermore, local anisotropies of the initial grid are preserved. The developed implementation allows efficient adaptation and is used in a finite element program for simulation of thermal diffusion processes.

Three-Dimensional Grid Adaptation Using a Mixed-Element Decomposition Method

A new method for adaptive refinement of unstructured grids has been developed. This method ensures preservation of the element quality and the structural anisotropies of the initial grid. The flexibility of unstructured grids in combination with the implemented error estimation provides a powerful basis for three-dimensional simulation of tiine dependent processes.

Modified Fixed Grid Finite Element Method to Solve 3D Elasticity Problems of Functionally Graded Materials

In the present paper, applicability of the modified fixed grid finite element method in solution of three dimensional elasticity problems of functionally graded materials is investigated. In the non-boundary-fitted meshes, the elements are not conforming to the domain boundaries and the boundary nodes which are used in the traditional finite element method for the application of boundary condit...

Mixed-Mode Stress Intensity Factors for Surface Cracks in Functionally Graded Materials Using Enriched Finite Elements

Three-dimensional enriched finite elements are used to compute mixed-mode stress intensity factors (SIFs) for three-dimensional cracks in elastic functionally graded materials (FGMs) that are subject to general mixed-mode loading. The method, which advantageously does not require special mesh configuration/modifications and post-processing of finite element results, is an enhancement of previou...

A Finite Element Parallel Domain Decomposition Method for Incompressible Turbomachinery Flows

The paper presents a domain decomposition algorithm applied to a finite element code to model steady, incompressible, turbulent internal fluid flows. The domain decomposition parallelization is here considered as a key feature for the simulation of complex flow phenomena in turbomachinery where a huge number of computational grid points is necessary. An eddy viscosity modelling is adopted for t...

Analysis of Variance-based Mixed Multiscale Finite Element Method and Applications in Stochastic Two-phase Flows

The stochastic partial differential systems have been widely used to model physical processes, where the inputs involve large uncertainties. Flows in random and heterogeneous porous media is one of the cases where the random inputs (e.g., permeability) are often modeled as a stochastic field with high-dimensional random parameters. To treat the high dimensionality and heterogeneity efficiently,...
